Dr. Vivian Bucay
Dr. Vivian Bucay, a board-certified dermatologist in private practice since 1991, also serves on the volunteer faculty as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant studies at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University and her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Bucay completed her dermatology training at the University of Miami and the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She practiced for eight years in Mexico City before relocating to San Antonio, TX, in 1999.
Recognized nationally for her expertise in minimally invasive facial rejuvenation combining the use of neuromodulators, fillers, and energy-based devices, Dr. Bucay serves as faculty on several continuing medical educational initiatives in the USA and has been an invited speaker at numerous meetings both nationally and internationally, including the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society of Cosmetic Physicians of Western Australia, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, IMCAS Paris, DASIL Bangkok, BODY Conference 2009 (London), Sociedad Espanola de Medicina Estetica , the Cosmetic Surgery Forum, Vegas Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Nonsurgical Symposium (Sydney), and 5 CC Cannes. Dr. Bucay has also lectured in Singapore, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the Philippines on topics that include treatment strategies for hyperpigmentation and microfocused ultrasound for nonsurgical lifting of the face and neck.
As the first physician to bring carbon dioxide laser resurfacing for aesthetic procedures to Mexico, Dr. Bucay chaired many workshops in its use in Mexico City (1996) and during the Pan American Congress of Ophthalmology in Cancun, Mexico (1997). Dr. Bucay served as co-chair for the Asia Pacific Expert Injectors Conference involving advanced applications of botulinum toxin A in Bali, Indonesia in March 2002.
Dr. Bucay serves as a consultant to many companies and has been featured as a skin expert in numerous publications, includingAllure, Good Housekeeping, Elle, More, Marie Claire, Shape, Men’s Health, Prevention, Fitness, Cosmetic Surgery Times, Dermatology Times, and New Beauty. Dr. Bucay is a Distinguished Physician Member of the Liquid Face Lift Association and is a part of Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide. She is also the author or co-author of many publications and has been involved in several studies evaluating emerging cosmeceuticals. Since 2004, Dr. Bucay has been recognized yearly as a “Texas Super Doctor” inTexas Monthly magazine.
On a community level, Dr. Bucay is actively involved in Respite Care, a San Antonio-based organization that provides ongoing medical care for abused and neglected children, and has raised awareness of this worthwhile cause through her fundraising efforts as an honoree for the North Star Gives initiative.
On a personal note, as a stage 4 melanoma survivor, Dr. Bucay is passionate about skin wellness, and in an effort to educate others about skin cancer, she has shared her experience with others as a keynote speaker for many community organizations and professional societies.
