Dermatologist skin cream product specialistRichard L. Gallo, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Gallo is considered by many to be among the top investigative dermatologists in the world and his work has been at the forefront of paradigm-shifting advances in skin biology. His training at Harvard began with the study of Heparan Sulfate in wound repair and led to his discovery of antimicrobial peptides in the skin, a landmark observation that rewrote modern concepts of the interplay between epithelia and the immune system. Since establishing his research program at the University of California, San Diego, he has over 250 publications in the most prestigious scientific and medical journals, and has received many scientific awards from around the world.

His work has had important impact in multiple clinical areas including Dermatology, Microbiology, Wound Repair and Endocrinology. Furthermore, he and his colleagues have applied his discoveries to unexplained skin disorders such as Rosacea and Psoriasis, and has made major contributions that have furthered understanding the functions of the microbiome. Ongoing research by his group continues to discover how the skin interacts with the environment, and how molecules such as heparan sulfate regulate these events.
